My Year with Roon: Top Albums Played
My digital listening was a lot of jazz in 2025
Roon is fantastic for anyone serious about their digital music collection. It doesn’t just play your files (and streams from Tidal or Qobuz), it also elevates the entire experience by layering in rich, detailed metadata. That data is what makes Roon so unique. For each album, you get the liner notes, album credits, recommendations, and so much more. It has transformed how I browse, discover, and organize my digital music library.
…and with that said, I just viewed the albums I listened to the most on Roon this past year, and honestly, the list makes sense for the year I’ve had. It’s a journey through deep, contemplative listening, and I wanted to share the top five that dominated my digital listening in 2025.
The number one spot goes to Entrance Music by Okonski. Right behind it is Open Me, A Higher Consciousness of Sound and Spirit by Kahil El’Zabar’s Ethnic Heritage Ensemble. Next, it’s the spiritual, soulful jazz of The Eternal Now by Chip Wickham, followed by The Life You Save by Flock of Dimes. And finally, rounding out the top five, is Disquiet by The Necks from down under. They’re masters of patient, evolving soundscapes.
2025 was a year of deep listening for me, with a lot of jazz and a lot of challenging yet rewarding experimental work. If you want to try Roon for free, check it out here.
